Why
we started Bill Dollar Music
|
|
For years, you and I have been suckered into
buying mediocre CDs on the basis of one hot single.
There have been a few exceptions: early Beatle
albums, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Early Eagles,
and ZZTop's Eliminator period.
That's why mp3 downloads are so great-you only
pay for the stuff you really like! And the best
part is that you get the music directly from
the artist.
Without some idiot from a record company saying:
Can we make that sound more like Van Halen? Or:
The guitars have to sound the same throughout
the CD.
Also: the 60 songs here (and the next 80 still
in production) don't all sound the same in subject,
texture or rhythms. Why should they? So you can
pick the style of song that you feel like listening
to today. Instead of settling for this month's
million-dollar radio promotion flavour.
Songs in these
first 6 CDs are about: accidental canyon death,
finding great food in Jamaica,
fallen angels, surrendering to temptation, illegal
immigrants, ghosts
in a room, rasta gangs, hobo jungles, midnight
pickups, california goodbyes, getting a tan,
and getting your heart broken six ways from sundown.
We like the first 60 and hope you will too. |
I came into music on the words side. For my sins, I was an advertising copywriter
for many years; the best possible training for a lyric writer. You learn how
words work and what makes them powerful and memorable.
Three years ago, I really got cheesed with the music all the stations were playing,so
I quit fooling around with hotrods, motorcycles and short fiction writing and
fired up my home recording studio and started working five days a week on songs
that I wish somebody else
had written, so I didn't have to.
(I should mention that back in the day, I co-wrote a No 1 million-seller
in Europe as well as releasing a group album on CBS and a solo album on
EMI.)
The more songs I've written in the last three years, the more I felt they should
be heard by other people who, like me,want an alternative to what's on the radio
these days.
Now the work's done, the 6 CDs on this site are the first batch to come through,
with another 8 CDs that are still being mixed and generally cleaned up.
